Goodnight, We Love You Directed by Gregg Barson, 92 min.
The life and act of groundbreaking female stand-up comedian Phyllis Diller is given an in-depth and loving look in this documentary. Shots of her preparing for and delivering her final stand-up act are interspersed with interviews with her, her current and former staff, and adoring fellow comics and entertainers. It is a revealing look at the business and rituals of big-time stand-up comedy. While occasionally it veers too deep into the details of the diva's life (I don't care about her shoes, cars, or house), it well documents the development of her career (especially the impact of her idol, Bob Hope), and her trailblazing for a generation of female comedians.
